PHP

We're not obsessed with Microsoft. We have a healthy respect for where they are and what they have done for personal computers and the internet. They provide our preferred development platform and tools, but sometimes the call to use other technologies for the good of your company, idea or goals needs to be recognised and acted upon.

PHP is a great stable technology that's has been hugely accepted in web development. While PHP can run on Windows (likewise, ASP.NET can run on Unix), Apache and Unix are it's usual home and coupled with a MySQL database it makes a powerful website development platform that is cheaper to host.

MySQL

MySQL is a great low cost database server that also gives great performance. It's now starting to provide some of the features that we love in our preferred database server, Microsoft SQL Server. We don't think it's quite there yet, but we endorse it as a great database server and aren't averse to using it ourselves.
